Taxi driver’s special delivery on Westlink

NEWTOWNABBEY taxi driver Frank Ritchie has been telling everyone about the new baby he helped deliver in the back of his cab.

The Abbey Taxis’ driver collected Carnmoney couple Angela and Billy Fegan early on Saturday morning (March 5).

Little did Frank know that during the short ride from the couple’s Sharonmore home to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast they would end up nursing a newborn baby boy - who weighed in at 9lb 3oz - in the back of his taxi on the Westlink.

“It was definitely a first, but something I was glad to be a part of,” said Frank.

“I got the message over our system about the pick-up just before 7am on Saturday.

“When I got to the couple’s home I could tell she was heavily pregnant, but they were both very calm and I had no idea it was so close.”
