NEWTOWNABBEY man David Watt is hoping to put his name alongside the golfing hierarchy of McDowell, McIlroy and Clarke as he takes to the greens and fairways of the UK Transplant Games.

The 52-year-old will be taking part in the golfing competition for the third time at the nationwide games, which are being held in Belfast this year.

Almost five years ago David, who is originally from Jordanstown, received an organ transplant after he suffered kidney failure in 2003.

The company director said he was taking part in the games, which start today (Thursday, August 4), to highlight the need for more people to join the organ donor list.

He said: “Taking part is fantastic, but we hope that the games highlight the gift of life that being an organ donor actually is.”
