THE council’s popular Zest Youth Zone project will return to the Valley Leisure Centre from Saturday, March 16.
The initiative, which will run every Saturday (7pm - 11pm) until April 6, offers young people aged 11 - 18 years the opportunity to take part in a range of indoor and outdoor activities, including football, archery, a climbing wall and arts and crafts. There will also be a chill out zone and a cafe.
Following the success of the six-week pilot Youth Zone project last year, which attracted more than 500 young people from across the borough, the council and Policing and Community Safety Partnership hope that this year’s programme will continue throughout the year during school/college holidays.
It’s understood that the August 3 and 10 Youth Zone nights will be held in Sixmile Leisure Centre, Ballyclare due to the Valley Leisure Centre hosting the World Police and Fire Games.
Running the project on 16 dates throughout the year is expected to cost the council around £4,000 for staffing and security services.
Admission to Zest Youth Zone costs just 50p per person, and bus services are available courtesy of Translink to several drop-off points around the borough.
