A GLENGORMLEY woman who once tipped the scales at 25 stone this week told how she battled the bulge and came out fighting fit by becoming a personal trainer.
Kerry-Anne McClenaghan shed a staggering 14 stone on her way to fulfilling her dream of setting up her own fitness business.
Once a size 32, the New Mossley mum-of-one says hard work, training, watching what she eats and the support of her family have been pivotal in her weight loss drive.
"I had always been overweight, even as a child," said the 29-year-old. "The older I got the heavier I got because I didn't exercise and would have eaten anything. It was a vicious circle, I comfort ate when I was feeling down about my size, so I got even bigger.
"When I was 19 I was at my heaviest, weighing over 25 stone and a I wore a clothes size of 32. I remember when I was at school I used to get my mum to cut the labels off the clothes so no one knew what size they were.
"As teenager I tried to be the centre of attention, being the mad one at parties and overdoing it on the alcohol which put on even more weight."
The kick-start she needed to trim down came when she lost half a stone during a bout of glandular fever, and after her daughter Morgan was born she knew she had to "push herself even more".
"While I was unwell I lost about half a stone and people noticed that I had lost weight. That gave me the encouragement I needed to change my life. I changed my diet and started exercising," said Kerry-Anne.
