A BALLYCLARE Unislim leader is inviting people from across the borough to join her on a sponsored walk in aid of Northern Ireland's leading cancer charity.
Nicola Penman, from Russell Manor, is organising a ‘Walk for Life’ fundraiser - a five mile sponsored walk to enable people to show that they care about those who are courageously battling cancer. The event will take place at Hazelbank Park on Saturd
ay, March 13 at 10.30am, and Nicola is hoping as many people as possible will come along and offer their support.

This is Nicola’s second year organising the ‘Walk for Life’, after being incredibly successful last year and raising £1,680. This year she hopes to attract even more interest and better that total for Action Cancer.

“Our aim is to have as many women, men, children and indeed dogs as possible putting their best foot forward and blowing last year’s figure out of the water. We understand that not everyone can afford to donate huge amounts of money and can find asking for sponsorship embarrassing. Therefore, we only ask that you donate £10 to Action Cancer when you take part in the Walk for Life, but sponsorship forms will be available if you would like one.

“It costs approximately £75 to provide one mammogram, so every seven or eight people who take part in the walk could be saving a life,” she explained.

Action Cancer is a charity close to Nicola’s heart, as over the years she has watched close friends both win and lose their battles with cancer.

The local charity offers services for both men and women suffering from cancer and is the only Northern Ireland charity to offer breast screening for women aged 40-49 and 70+.

Action Cancer also offers a range of other services including counselling and complementary therapies for people undergoing cancer treatment, and MOT health checks for men.

All money raised by Action Cancer is spent providing vital services in Northern Ireland.

‘Walk for Life’ registration forms are available from Action Cancer, or by emailing Nicola at nicolapenman2000@yahoo.co.uk
