PAULINE Blair from Ballyclare is 'getting on her bike' - literally - to help change young lives.
Pauline, Team Programme Executive at the Prince's Trust Northern Ireland, and four colleagues, will be pushing themselves to the limit by taking on the Capgemini Wild UK Challenge from September 5 to 7.
They will be competing against other teams, in
the challenge of strength and wits, across one hundred miles of Somerset and Devon over two and a half days.
The challenge consists of hill trekking, on and off road biking, kayaking, and finishes with a sea swim on the South Devon coast.
Not only will their physical fitness be put to the test, but there will also be some mystery challenges along the way that will stretch their mental determination.
The money they raise will pay for five young people to take part in the Prince's Trust Northern Ireland's Team programme; a twelve-week personal development programme that enables young people to develop confidence, motivation and skills through teamwork in the community. The majority of team participants are unemployed, and through completing this programme find work or enter full time education or training.
Lahbib Alouti, a previous Team participant benefited greatly from the programme.
Having left his native Algeria at the age of 14, Lahbib arrived in Northern Ireland alone, unable to speak English and was taken into care.
He left school with few qualifications, was unemployed, and didn't see any prospect of secure employment or housing.
Through completing the Prince's Trust Team programme, Lahbib has hope for his future, he has more confidence, a secure job and a house with friends.
Lahbib says of programme: "Team has helped me escape my old life. It has built my confidence and showed me I can really achieve something."
Pauline feels that all the training, time and money is more than worth it to see more young people believe in themselves.
"You can see a vast change in the young people from day one to the end of the Prince's Trust Team programme. The programme challenges the young people in so many different ways and they become more motivated and confident, ready to grab their future with both hands."
In order to raise these much needed life changing funds, Pauline and the team will be organising a series of fundraising events, from bag packs to table quizzes.
