POLICE are appealing for information after a series of racist crimes across the borough.
A house in Rathcoole, thought to be home to a Polish family, has been targeted three times in recent weeks and on Saturday, youths attacked an 11-year-old girl in a Ballyclare park.
Just shortly before 2am on Sunday , August 24, police received a re
port that windows had been broken at a property at Rathmore Drive.
The house was attacked again on Tuesday, August 26, shortly after 11pm when another window was smashed.
And just last weekend (Saturday, August 30), before midnight, a large crowd of youths gathered outside the house and an altercation ensued.
Police are treating these as a racial incidents. Area Commander Chief Inspector Paula Hilman said: "Without doubt this was very traumatic for the family and I know that the vast majority of the community in Rathcoole will join me in condemning this. Please assist the police in this matter by giving us any information, no matter how small."
• Meanwhile, police are investigating an incident in the Ballyeaston Road area of the town that was reported at around 6.30pm Monday evening (September 1).
A number of youths forced their way into a house and caused substantial damage to furniture. A satellite navigation system was also stolen.
No one was in the property at the time. It is understood the youths were all wearing tracksuits and scarves to cover their faces.
Ballyclare police are treating this as a racial incident and are appealing for anyone who may have any information to come forward as soon as possible.
• An assault on an 11-year-old girl in Ballyclare at the weekend is being treated by police as a hate crime.
The attack occurred in a park in Ballyclare on Saturday afternoon. She was assaulted by a number of youths in the park and sustained bruising to her body. She was treated in hospital for her injuries. The girl and her family are said to have been traumatised by the incident.
Police in Ballyclare are are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed the assault. Anyone who can assist the investigation in any way is asked to contact police at Ballyclare on 0845 600 8000, or to call the Crimestoppers charity number on 0800 555 111.
Chief Inspector Hilman further added: "Any form of hate crime is unacceptable. No one deserves to experience it and these criminals will be brought before the courts."
