‘A brilliant day for Rathcoole’

YOUNG and old came together to celebrate the launch of the Rathcoole past and present exhibition and the unveiling of two new murals in the estate.

Culture Minister Nelson McCausland met with the local community at Rathcoole Primary School to celebrate the opening of the two projects on Wednesday, March 9.

The intergenerational exhibition was funded through the European Union’s Peace III Cultural Awareness and Relationship Building Programme.

This project involved story telling from the Rathcoole Creative Memories Group on the life and times of Rathcoole to pupils from Newtownabbey Community High School, Rathcoole Primary School, Whitehouse Primary School, Abbots Cross Primary School and King’s Park Primary School.

A DVD was produced by the groups detailing the process and how relationships evolved between the children and the older generation.

The final result was an excellent exhibition of Rathcoole Past and Present with a contemporary twist.
