TWO teenagers were arrested on Monday evening (May 7) after a group of youths broke into Belfast Zoo and released three Shetland ponies from a paddock.

The incident happened at around 8pm.

The ponies - Rosie, Billy and Peaches - were quickly rounded up and returned unharmed to their enclosure in the farm area.

“They were really only out for a few minutes and we managed to catch them pretty quickly up near the Floral Hall,” Zoo Manager, Mark Challis told the Times.

“They’re no worse for wear and they’re actually enjoying a bit of extra pampering from the keepers,” he added.
