Leading supermarket chain Asda has announced plans for a new £25million development on the Doagh Road near Monkstown.

The proposed new superstore, which could create up to 350 full and part-time jobs, would form part of a wider mixed-use development on the 14-acre site beside the former Nortel factory, including a call centre, industrial units and housing.

The retail giant confirmed this week that it is currently preparing a planning application for the new 40,000 sq/ft store, petrol filing station and 460-space car park at the Monkstown Road/Doagh Road junction.

Local residents are being invited to make their views known on the plans at two community consultation events.

The events will take place at Hillside Nursery Centre, 328 Doagh Road, on Friday (March 23) from 12 noon to 6.30pm and Saturday (March 24) from 12 noon to 5pm.

Information boards, maps and leaflets will provide detailed information and Asda representatives will be on hand to answer any questions people may have about the proposals.
