Ballyclare Activity Trail has been presented with the UK’s first WorldHost Tourism Hotspot status for delivering exceptional levels of customer service.
The announcement was made at the recent Northern Ireland Tourist Board Customer Service Masterclass held at Galgorm Resort & Spa, Ballymena.
Ballyclare Activity Trail is a collection of ten local hospitality businesses and leisure facility providers - Breckenhill, Tildarg Fishery, Dunamoy Cottages, Ballyclare Golf Club, 5 Corners, Need 4 Speed, Soccer Shed, Ballyrobert Cottage Garden, Laurel View Equestrian Centre and Ballylagan Organic Farm.
The trail, which featured on TV presenter Nick Hewer’s hit BBC show ‘The Farm Fixer’ last year, has gone from strength to strength.
“We are delighted to be part of the Ballyclare Activity Trail. This is an excellent example of local businesses getting together to market and promote themselves jointly, to offer visitors to the area, and local people, some great ideas for a day or weekend out,” said Henrietta Reade of Breckenhill.
“All the members of the trail are thrilled to have become the first WorldHost Tourism Hotspot in the UK, and hope that this recognition will raise awareness of what we are doing and show our commitment to our customers.”
WorldHost customer service training is being rolled out across the tourism industry, supported by NITB, the Department of Employment and Learning and the sector skills council, People 1st.
Since its introduction, over 10,000 people from all over Northern Ireland have received training and a substantial number of businesses have received a WorldHost Recognition Award, which is awarded after 50 per cent of an organisation’s staff have been trained.
Carolyn Boyd, NITB Industry Development Manager, said: “The new momentum that has been created in customer care in Northern Ireland tourism is helping to transform the face of the industry. But if we are to continue to impress, build repeat visits and ultimately improve the economy through tourism we must not let up in our drive to improve customer care standards.
“NITB Customer Service Masterclass was a stimulating and fresh angle on how we can extend our standards through paying close attention to the cultural values and behaviours of visitors who travel to Northern Ireland not only to see our beautiful country but to meet our local people.”
