BARGAINS in the local housing market offer first time buyers a real opportunity to get a foot on the property ladder, according to one local estate agent.
Housing prices peaked in 2007 and since then have continued to fall and the Times has now found homes that can be bought in the Newtownabbey area for less than £40,000.
This figure is in stark contrast to the £100,000 plus prices paid just four years ago for similar properties.
However, the problem of getting a mortgage remains to be the stumbling block for many buyers at the present time.
Glengormley estate agent Jim McMillan said there was “real value” to be had in the local market.
