The winner of this year’s Dr W. M. Loughridge Memorial Trust bursary is Zack Millar, who lives in Greenisland and was a pupil at Belfast High School.

The bursary and shield were presented by the late Dr Loughridge’s son Dale at a ceremony hosted by the Mayor of Carrickfergus, Alderman Charles Johnston.

The bursary is awarded to the pupil about to study medicine who gains highest marks at A level and lives in Carrickfergus Borough. Zack is to study at Cambridge University.

Dr Loughridge practised in Carrick for 37 years and his influence on the quality of life in the borough was considerable because he not only served his patients with dedication and great skill but also made an outstanding contribution to the community through his many and varied interests.

Victor Hart, secretary of the trustees, said: “Today studying at university is expensive and it is great to be able to help and encourage students in a tangible way.”
