Alliance councillor John Blair has welcomed last week’s announcement that the Environment Minister has given the go-ahead for a £2.5million distribution centre development at Sandyknowes Business Park.
Welcoming the fact that the investment could bring up to 40 new permanent jobs, Alderman Blair said: “This is fantastic news and a welcome boost for the greater Glengormley area.
“This investment is a timely boost to local economic confidence, after recent concerns were raised about the future of jobs at the local M&S distribution centre.
“Newtownabbey has a lot to offer and this announcement is a reminder of the available skills and suitable roads infrastructure in the area.”
Meanwhile, some local residents have expressed concerns about yet more lorries using the already busy road network around Glengormley, with several parents calling for a reduced speed limit in the area.
