Bricks thrown at school bus

A GROUP of school pupils and teachers were lucky to escape unhurt after their bus came under attack from stone-throwing yobs near Cloughfern Corner on Tuesday, March 20.

“At approximately 1.30pm, it was reported that the bus was travelling along the O’Neill Road when teenagers threw the bricks, narrowly missing the windows. No-one was injured in the incident,” a PSNI spokesman confirmed.

Rathcoole community worker Phil Hamilton, who has previously voiced concerns about young people throwing stones at passing traffic in the area, said the bus had been carrying children with special needs.

“This was a deplorable attack on vulnerable people and this dangerous practice of throwing stones at cars and buses has to stop before someone gets seriously injured,” he commented.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact officers at Newtownabbey Station on 0845 600 8000.
