DETECTIVES investigating a robbery in Monkstown at the weekend have appealed to the local community to help them catch those responsible.
At around 10.40pm on Sunday (July 15) it was reported that two hooded men boarded a Translink bus on Devenish Drive and demanded money from the driver. The men, who are thought to have been carrying weapons, made off with a sum of money.
The 36-year-old bus driver wasn’t injured, but was left badly shaken by the ordeal.
Condemning the robbery, UUP councillor John Scott commented: “The bus service is vital for the local community and if these sorts of incidents continue to happen we could see some services, particularly those at nights, being withdrawn. Any loss of bus services would be a major blow and the whole community would lose out.”
Investigating officers have appealed for anyone with information about the robbery to contact them at Newtownabbey Station on 0845 600 8000, or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
