Newtownabbey councillors have agreed to spend £500 on sending five council representatives to the Northern Ireland Impact Awards.

The recommendation, which was approved without debate during a meeting of the local authority’s Leisure Committee on April 14, will see council representatives attending the Waterfront Hall event in Belfast on June 5.

Newtownabbey Borough Council has been shortlisted in the Business and Biodiversity category. Other organisations shortlisted in this category are Translink, Antrim Borough Council, National Museums Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland Water and John Graham Construction Ltd.

The cost for a table at the awards is £1,000 for ten seats, and Newtownabbey Borough Council will share a table with Antrim Borough Council.

Among the attendees will be the Mayor, chairperson and vice chairperson of the Antrim/Newtownabbey Statutory Transition Committee, the chairperson and vice chairperson of the Environment Committee or their nominees, the Biodiversity Officer and those councillors and officers nominated by Antrim Borough Council.
