The owner of Corr’s Corner Hotel, Eugene McKeever, is to receive the MBE for services to tourism and hospitality.
Mr McKeever, managing director of the McKeever Hotel Group, was named in The Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
Eugene McKeever started work at Corr’s Corner in 1966 when he was just 12 years old. He went on to train as a chef and worked at the hotel as head chef for 11 years.
Having left to start his own business, Eugene and his wife Catherine bought the landmark hostelry in 1993.
Mr McKeever, whose McKeever Hotel Group also owns the Dunsilly Hotel in Antrim and the Adair Arms Hotel in Ballymena, said the honour had come as “a complete surprise.”
“I’m absolutely thrilled,” he said. “I can’t believe it. You hear about people receiving these honours in recognition of the work they do, and rightly so. But it came as a real shock when I found out that someone was actually recognising me.”
The Co Antrim man is a past president of the Northern Ireland Hotels Federation.
