Call for restricted access at Rathcoole park

Council officers are to look at the possibility of installing new fencing/gates at Rathcoole Leisure Park in a bid to prevent quad bike and scrambler riders from accessing the site.

At Monday night’s (June 10) Leisure Committee meeting, DUP councillor Thomas Hogg claimed that people riding quads and scramblers in the Derrycoole Way park have caused “considerable damage” to the facility.

Pointing out that some of those riding the vehicles are young children, he said: “This is a very dangerous practice that is going on in our park.”

Responding to Cllr Hogg’s request for measures to restrict access to the park, council officers agreed to look into the matter.
