SECURITY cameras placed around Ballyclare, which had sparked rumours and speculation as to their purpose, were part of a traffic survey scheme carried out by the Department of Social Development (DSD).
Cameras had been put on signs around the town on roads including the Templepatrick Road, the Hillhead Road and Green Road for three days week.
The cameras were placed in the town as part of a £75,000 traffic assessment survey carried out by the DSD as part of the regeneration project for Ballyclare town centre.
Announced last September the transport study aims at examining the current traffic situation and how it might be affected by future developments in the town as well as providing recommendations on improvement.
The initiative is part of a wider scheme for both Glengormley and Ballyclare town centres in cooperation with Newtownabbey Borough Council and business representatives. A survey has already taken place in Glengormley.
