The seventh annual Newtownabbey Borough Council ‘Celebrating Success’ community graduation was held at Mossley Mill recently.

The event was the culmination of a year-long programme of training courses organised by the community development section of the council which celebrated the achievements of the many community representatives who took part in training opportunities over the past year.

Over 50 people attended various courses throughout the year, which included child protection, event management and stewarding, running a successful community group and recruiting and selecting volunteers.

The appeal of these courses has been reflected in the level of demand which continues to grow steadily from year to year.

Speaking at the annual celebration event, the mayor, Alderman Fraser Agnew said: “I am delighted to recognise your personal achievements and to celebrate the success of over 50 individuals who have completed courses and enhanced their knowledge and skills.

“We are committed to supporting learning and training within the community and voluntary sector in the borough.”

Further community capacity building courses will be starting in September 2014.
