Two local women who have both been actively fundraising for Action Cancer for 40 years have been recognised for their efforts.

Mrs Monena Gibson and Mrs Vikki Dundas, both long-serving members of Whiteabbey Action Cancer Group, were recently presented with special plaques by the charity’s chief executive, Mr Gareth Kirk, to mark their fundraising milestone.

Mr Kirk commended the two women for “their commitment and dedication to Action Cancer and the Whiteabbey Group over the years.”

Over the past four decades, the members of the Whiteabbey Group have worked tirelessly for the charity, helping to raise more than £200,000 for its vital work.

“I am delighted to present plaques to Monena and Vikki for their service to Action Cancer through the Whiteabbey Fundraising Group,” Mr Kirk commented.

“This is the charity’s longest running group and it has raised a substantial amount of money over the years in the local area.”

Action Cancer relies on donations from organisations and the public to provide life-saving services, including breast screening services for women aged 40 - 49 and 70 plus, MOT health checks, counselling, complementary therapies and health promotions.

“Action Cancer simply could not operate without the support of our loyal volunteers who work tirelessly to raise both funds and awareness for the charity, enabling us to provide our range of cancer prevention, detection and support services free of charge to local people throughout Northern Ireland.

“On behalf of Action Cancer I would like to wholeheartedly thank both ladies for all their hard work and dedication over the past 40 years,” Mr Kirk added.

The officers and members of Whiteabbey Action Cancer Group also passed on their thanks to Mrs Gibson and Mrs Dundas for their hard work and dedication over the years.

The Whiteabbey Group is the oldest of Action Cancer’s community fundraising groups and recently celebrated its 40th year fundraising for Northern Ireland’s leading cancer charity.
