The Lyric Theatre recently invited 11 children and their host families from the Newtownabbey Branch of the Chernobyl Children Appeal NI to watch a performance of The Jungle Book and meet the cast afterwards.

Ciarán McAuley, Chief Executive of the Lyric Theatre explained: “Theatre has the power to transcend language and cultural barriers. By supporting Chernobyl Children Appeal NI to watch a performance of The Jungle Book, I hope the Lyric has helped make the children’s visit to Northern Ireland a memorable one.”

Paul McCloskey, Chair of the Newtownabbey Branch of the charity commented: “The children were overwhelmed by the performance and have talked of little else since attending. This experience is one that they seldom if ever would have the opportunity to enjoy at home and I am sure they will remember it in years to come.”

The Lyric’s critically acclaimed production of The Jungle Book runs at the Belfast venue until August 14. For more information log on to www.lyrictheatre.co.uk
