Church’s development plan ‘a non-starter’

A PLANNING application submitted by Carnmoney Presbyterian Church for the construction of a dwelling and garage on a narrow strip of land at the junction of Manse Road and Beverley Road has been turned down by planners.

At their monthly meeting on January 16, members of Newtownabbey Council’s Planning Committee were informed that a refusal recommendation had been made on the plan for the site at the rear of 35 - 45 Beechgrove Crescent, just off the Manse Road/Carnmoney Road North roundabout.

The meeting was informed that the application was contrary to a number of planning policies, and that, if permitted, the development would “result in unacceptable damage to the environmental quality and residential amenity of the surrounding area.”

Responding to questions from alderman Paul Girvan about the proposed development, the Divisional Planning Officer said: “Quite frankly, the suggestion of putting a house on that site is a non-starter.”
