Climb to the top for children with cancer

For a child in Northern Ireland to get the cancer treatment they need, families on average have to travel up to 500 miles a week. To help ease this burden, CLIC Sargent has launched an exciting fundraising event.

Those up for the thrill and adventure of taking on Northern Ireland’s highest mountain will help raise funds for CLIC Sargent’s Homes from Home appeal, which aims to build free self catering accommodation close to the Belfast hospitals.

Following previous success, CLIC Sargent is holding their third Mourne Challenge on Saturday 29 September. Congregating at Donard car park at 9am, participants will then climb to a height of 850 metres escorted by exceptional mountain guides. Reaching the summit will never feel so exhilarating as participants will be rewarded with breath taking views of the County Down coast and as far afield as Belfast. CLIC Sargent will be there every step of the way offering support and encouragement to supporters as they scale the heights for children with cancer.

Claire McAuley, Fundraising Manager at CLIC Sargent said; “Families in Northern Ireland already face an enormous emotional and financial strain on family life when a child is diagnosed with cancer. To have to travel up to 500 miles a week really adds to these pressures at an already stressful time. By building two Homes from Home we can help ease that burden and restore some normality to family life.”

We want participants to create a sense of achievement for themselves – not only to have reached the top, but also to have made a significant difference to a family’s life.”
