A Ballyclare man who gives up his free time to teach spedial needs children to swim is in line for a community honour.

Colin Davidson has shown outstanding dedication to this cause by organising galas and swimming competitions for the local community and has proven himself to be a caring and devoted member of society.

He is among 38 winning Lidl Community Works Local Heroes nominated by Lidl Northern Ireland customers to be acknowledged for their hard work and dedication to causes they are passionate about in their local area.

Colin will be honoured at an exclusive gala event on the renowned SS Nomadic in Belfast on 01 December.

He said: “I take the classes but I’d admit I’m not the best swimmer in the world. I have run marathons, but swimming isn’t easy, and when you see these young people swimming, despite all their challenges, they are good.

“They’d put a lot of people to shame in the water! It’s about patience - for me and them. If I’ve had a bad day, being there will lift my spirits.”
