NEWTOWNABBEY’S top police officer has praised the local community for its efforts to help find a missing person.
Between 60 and 70 people came together, through the coordination of the Whiteabbey Community Group, to help find an elderly and vulnerable lady.
The search team involved members of a local youth club, taxi drivers, relatives of bus drivers and general members of the public whose combined knowledge helped track the woman down within hours.
Area Commander, Temporary Chief Inspector Derek McCamley said the way the community pulled together to help find the lady, who suffers from a debilitating mental illness, was a “fine show of community spirit”.
The incredible story began on Friday, August 26 just before 7pm when a report was made to Newtownabbey police that a woman in her mid 80s had gone missing from a local fold.
