GLENGORMLEY councillor John Blair has praised the police for cracking down on speeding motorists on the Ballycraigy Road.
During discussions with PSNI representatives in 2010, the Alliance Party representative called for a clampdown on drivers who were ignoring the speed limit on the route after concerns were flagged up by local residents about the safety of motorists and pedestrians.
At a recent meeting of the Antrim Line Community Policing Forum, alderman Blair received confirmation from the PSNI’s Glengormley Sector Inspector, Martin Ruddy, that 64 motorists have received fixed penalty fines or been prosecuted through the courts for speeding offences on the narrow road over the past 12 months. He revealed that a further 20 drivers were stopped and given advice and warnings.
Praising the police for their actions, Mr Blair said: “I am extremely grateful that police responded swiftly and proactively to my request after I had been contacted by residents of Ballycraigy Road.
