SOMEONE plunging off Portmuck pier in a fancy dress costume isn’t a common spectacle in Islandmagee, but Newtownabbey men Ryan Hatrick and Craig Dalzell are planning to do it, not once, but 25 times over two days this weekend.
The plucky cousins will don a different disguise each time they jump into the chilly water of the Irish Sea, on the hour, every hour in the 24 hour period, in their efforts to raise much-needed funds for Cancer Research UK.
Ryan, a 33-year-old civil servant from Jordanstown, and Craig, a 32-year-old Halifax employee from Rathcoole, have received dozens of donated fancy dress outfits and have also put together some of their own special creations. They’ll be wearing everything from doctors’ coats and cowboy hats to superhero disguises.
Getting wet, however, isn’t enough for Ryan and Craig as they set about raising as much money as they can. They’ve also organised a family fun day to be held at the harbour between 12 noon and 6pm on Saturday, June 4.
Entertainment will include a BBQ, face painting, bouncy castle, paintball range, pig-on-a-spit, nail bar, crazy golf, cake stall, bungee run, inflatable duel, handmade crafts, bring & buy stall, raffle, dinky donuts, and DJ playing all day.
Ryan and Craig have already collected well over £3,000 for the very worthwhile cause, but anyone who would still like to make a donation in support of their fundraising efforts can do so at Saturday’s family fun day in Portmuck or online at www.justgiving.com/ryanhatrick or www.justgiving.com/craig_dalzell
