A CREATIVE couple from Newtownabbey who’ve penned a new TV drama say they’re really excited about it airing on BBC Northern Ireland this weekend.
Created by first time TV writers Dean and Glynis Hagan, At Water’s Edge has been developed by the local husband and wife team as part of the Primetime project - a joint initiative between Northern Ireland Screen, BBC NI and top UK drama company, Mammoth Screen.
The 60-minute drama tells the story of Beth (Andrea Irvine) who has been trying for years to have a baby. As another birthday approaches she decides to give IVF treatment one final try, but a fatal car accident spins her life into a new direction.
The local couple felt dramas reflecting the true experience of family life in Northern Ireland were missing from our screens.
“We feel that there is much about our culture that is universal in life experience, but what is unique to us is our biting wit and our ability to cry, laugh and survive adversity,” Dean explained.
“We just wanted to do something to show that people here go through the same experiences as everyone else and are no different to people in any other place in the world. We don’t see and hear enough of Northern Ireland’s voice from the ordinary man and woman.”
At Water’s Edge will air on BBC Two Northern Ireland on Sunday (February 26) at 9pm.
