DUP councillor Nigel Hamilton has confirmed that he will not be standing for re-election on May 5.

The announcement came just days after a Sunday newspaper published allegations about his personal life.

Alderman Hamilton, who was elected to Newtownabbey Council in 2001 and quickly became one of the borough’s most outspoken councillors, was replaced as a candidate in the Antrim Line area by Audrey Ball (pictured)- the wife of DUP alderman Billy Ball.
