Mayor raises awareness of homelessclients during visit to Extern Works

Homeless Awareness Week has been marked in Newtownabbey with a visit to Extern Works in Mallusk.

Meeting clients at the facility was Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey Councillor John Scott.

Extern is the leading social justice charity on the island of Ireland.

At Extern Works, those considered to be the furthest removed from the labour market, including people who are homeless, ex-offenders, refugees, and people with mental health issues or learning difficulties are offered vocational training and employment opportunities, enabling them to move on with their lives.

A handcrafted birdhouse, which was created in the Extern Works’ joinery workshop was raffled to support Extern’s Homeless Support Services at Belfast’s Castlecourt Shopping Centre.
