DETECTIVES are hunting a gang of thugs who terrorised two pensioners during a robbery at a house in the Ballycraigy Road area on Tuesday, April 30.
At around 10.45pm four males, one armed with a sawn off shotgun, entered the elderly couple’s house, tied them up and ransacked the property before making off with a substantial amount of jewellery, cash and ornaments.
The intruders were all dressed in black and wore balaclavas and gloves. Two of the men left the scene at one point in the couple’s car, taking bank cards in order to withdraw funds from an ATM machine. The couple, both aged in their 70s, were not physically injured but have been left traumatised by their ordeal.
“It is believed the men left the house at around 11.45pm but it is not known what vehicle was used or in which direction they travelled,” a police spokesman said.
“We would ask anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the Ballycraigy Road area to contact CID in Newtownabbey on 0845 600 8000. Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111,” he added.
