GLENGORMLEY Integrated Primary School will host the The Big ‘International Spud’ Lunch on Sunday, June 24.
Members of the local community are being invited to come along to the playground at the Church Road school between 12 noon and 3pm to take part in what promises to be a very special culinary experience.
The Big ‘International Spud’ Lunch is being organised by Glengormley Integrated Primary School PTA in association with Glengormley Community Group, the 50/50 Project and Newtownabbey Borough Council.
“As the staple diet for centuries, we feel the traditional potato can be enjoyed with a spread of international toppings and accompaniments, much like the native people in our community who are enhanced and enriched by the arrival of new cultures, languages and traditions here in Newtownabbey,” a spokesperson for the organisers commented.
“For this reason, we have modified the ethos of The Big Lunch, to become inclusive of all the community in a shared space, and to celebrate the diversity of cuisine, music, language and tradition that our new cultures bring to the area.
“Do come along from 12pm, after worship, before worship, from home or from work and enjoy sampling some free food from the simple baked spud to some more extravagant and adventurous flavours. Even better still, bring something exciting along with you to share with others. It’s good to share and taste something new. We will also have some music and entertainment from a cross-section of community groups. We really look forward to seeing lots of people, young and old, to share in our community spirit,” he added.
Entry to the event is free, but attendees will be able to make voluntary contributions to the work of the 50/50 community youth club in Glengormley.
Everyone is welcome to go along and join in the feast of fun.
