EXTERN, a local charity which employs 198 people, was among 34 organisations from across Northern Ireland celebrating this week after achieving additional accreditation as part of the prestigious Investors in People (IiP) framework.

Extern, based in Mallusk, works directly with children, adults and communities affected by social exclusion throughout Ireland.

During a special celebration event held in Belfast Castle, Dr Stephen Farry, Minister for Employment and Learning, offered his congratulations to Extern on its bronze award, and the other organisations that received the IiP business award at the ceremony.

“Your accomplishments indicate that your organisations are not just prepared to attain a certain standard but are willing to go beyond this,” he said.

Alan Shannon, Permanent Secretary at the Department for Employment and Learning, also congratulated the successful organisations, praising their efforts at developing, implementing and evaluating their people management and development strategies.
