HUGHES Insurance has launched its annual Sport Volunteer Awards and is on the search for Glengormley’s unsung sporting heroes.
The national awards programme aims to reward people who work in sporting communities right across Northern Ireland.
Judges are looking for the people whose drive, energy and passion keeps sports clubs and societies at the heart of their community.
The awards will run province-wide, focused through the 12 branches of Hughes Insurance and each location will have a regional winner when voting closes on April 1 and the decisions are made by a sporting judging panel.
Regional winners will then go on to compete against each other for the title of overall winner.
Last year’s winner was Josh Humphreys. Josh was chosen as the Hughes Insurance Glengormley Regional Winner for his work with Parents and Kids Together at Carrickfergus YMCA.
Kay Thompson, Glengormley branch manager said: “Following the success of last year we are delighted to launch the 2013 Sports Volunteer Awards.
“Last year we saw some of the fantastic work being done by sports volunteers in the area I would encourage everyone in Glengormley to visit their local Hughes Insurance branch or go online to our website to cast their vote. We’re incredibly passionate about sport in our local community and have launched the awards to give volunteers in Glengormley the recognition they deserve.”
Each Hughes Insurance branch winner will win a trophy, £200 for themselves plus £500 for their team, club or group. All 12 will then go forward to the Northern Ireland finals and the chance to win the overall title including £500, a trophy and an additional £1,000 for their organisation.
