FIREFIGHTERS from Glengormley rescued a 48-year-old woman from a house fire in the Whitewell area in the early hours of Tuesday morning (June 12).
It’s understood the woman’s neighbour alerted the emergency services after hearing a smoke alarm going off inside the semi-detached house on the Whitewell Road shortly after 5am.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued the woman from a room on the ground floor and administered oxygen therapy. She was suffering from severe smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital for further treatment.
The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that a sofa had been alight at the property and that firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze.
