A Newtownabbey postman has appeared on the nation’s TV screens for a second time in a new version of Royal Mail’s advertising campaign, We Love Parcels.

Gary Murray, who is based at Royal Mail’s Mail Centre in Mallusk, was beamed into millions of homes when the advert was aired during England’s World Cup warm-up game against Denmark on ITV1 on Wednesday, March 5.

More than 2,500 postal workers applied to be in the advert. But Gary was one of just 25 who made the final cut following a casting session in London.

The 40 second advert, which will continue to be aired throughout March, is promoting Royal Mail’s trust amongst consumers as the parcel delivery partner for online retailers. In the commercial, Gary can be seen making a young woman’s day as he delivers her a parcel to work.

The advert, which follows a consumer TV campaign last autumn, highlights independent research that shows that online shoppers trust Royal Mail to deliver their orders more than any other national parcel company. In addition, 76 per cent of people are more likely to use a particular online retailer again if they deliver through Royal Mail, according to the research.

It also shows the care and commitment taken by Royal Mail’s people to deliver parcels to addresses across the UK no matter the weather, as well as the joy people receive when they get their parcels.

Gary was chosen to appear in the advert after Royal Mail issued a call to 132,000 of its front line staff to invite them to audition for a part.

More than 2,500 employees applied and Gary was one of 25 who were selected to star in the commercial after auditioning in front of an accomplished judging panel of film producers and directors.

Newly-wed Gary, who has been a dedicated postal worker for close to 20 years, said he’s delighted that the advert is back on TV.

“It’s great the advert is being screened on TV again. I was so flattered to have been given the opportunity to take part in it and showcase the role I play in the company. The reaction from my friends and family has been amazing and it’s great to see the commercial being played out again,” he commented.

The advert is accompanied by a special version of the iconic Beatles song ‘All You Need is Love’. It was sung by the official Royal Mail choir and recorded at the famous Abbey Road Studios, 46 years after The Beatles recorded the original version at the very same address.
