Local children, parents and community group representatives joined the Mayor of Newtownabbey, Alderman Billy Webb and councillors to celebrate the start of work on a fantastic £200,000 play area in the Sixmilewater Park, Ballyclare on Thursday, July 28.

There has been massive public support in the Ballyclare area for the new play facility. Newtownabbey Borough Council sought the views of local residents in a public consultation exercise in December 2009, involving over 1,000 postal surveys. The results showed 75% of respondents supported a new play area in Sixmilewater Park.

Speaking about the scheme, the Mayor, Alderman Billy Webb commented: “This new play area is going to be a great facility for Ballyclare and the surrounding area. It will be a similar size to the very popular play park at Jordanstown Loughshore Park and will include a range of play equipment to suit all age groups and abilities.”
