Hairdressing students from the Newtownabbey campus of the Northern Regional College have showcased their work at a themed competition entitled ‘Create a Theme’.

The competition brought together over 20 students who are studying for a VQR level two qualification in hairdressing.

They spent several weeks designing ‘mood boards’, selecting hair styles and preparing their creations for the competition.

Each student had the opportunity to work alongside a beauty therapy student who complemented their model by adding some make-up to their creation.

NRC hairdressing lecturer stated that “The competition showcased the students’ work across a range of creative themed categories. It was an exciting event with a wonderful theme which provided the opportunity for the students to incorporate inspiration and originality into the competition.

“There were some fabulous creations in hair design and our judge Paul Carlin from Colors Hair Studio, Antrim Road, was amazed at the level of skills the students demonstrated.”

The winner was Charlene Getty with model Zoe McVey with her creation of the ‘Mad Hatter’. Second place went to student Amy Clarke and model Rachel Morran for ‘Ice Cream Girl’ and third place was awarded to Kelsy McNeice and model Sam Cox for her ‘Modern Pin Up Girl’. The winners were presented with hampers courtesy of Denman International and Wella.
