Children of all ages and from all backgrounds enjoyed a day of themed activities marking the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, when Hazelwood Integrated Primary School entered the spirit of celebration.

Older pupils spent the week exploring the symbols and traditions associated with the Queen and the six decades of her reign, and the whole school joined for fun and games on Friday, June 1, before breaking up for the long holiday weekend.

A massive street party was held in the playground, edged by a peace wall, whilst inside youngsters enjoyed a procession in fancy dress and paper crowns, and played ‘Pin the Tail on the Corgi’.

After partyfood supplied by parents the school settled down to watch visiting theatre company Mr Hullabaloo give an interactive performance of ‘Cinderella’.

Principal Patricia Murtagh said: “Everyone has really enjoyed the day; it was a great chance for older ones to learn a bit about history and culture, and the children of all ages joined together in a party which marked a public occasion in a way which is very characteristic of Hazelwood Integrated Primary School - we love sharing in events which are important to some or all of the people connected with our school and it was a great way to give the children a treat before their bank holiday weekend.”
