South Antrim MLA and Stormont Health Committee member, Pam Brown took time out of her schedule to call in to Medicare Pharmacy at Beverley Shops to help launch Ask Your Pharmacist Week.
The theme of the awareness week, which started on Monday, November 4, is to highlight the advice and treatment available at community pharmacies for common ailments, with the aim of helping people stay well during the winter months.
“I welcomed the opportunity to see first-hand the services available at a community pharmacy. During my visit I was shown some impressive examples of ways in which a community pharmacy can help boost the public’s health, not only in the winter, but all year round,” Ms Brown commented.
Roger McWha, pharmacist at Medicare Pharmacy, Beverley Road, added: “A community pharmacy is perfectly placed to help people to stay healthy in winter. Located in rural and urban settings and with extended opening hours, pharmacies are at the heart of every community.
“A recent survey by Ipsos Mori revealed that 98 per cent of people were satisfied with the treatment they received when using a pharmacy. This isn’t surprising when you consider the support available - including smoking cessation services, advice on adopting a healthier lifestyle and the management of conditions such as asthma or diabetes.”
