STUDENTS returned to the New Mossley Homework Club on Tuesday (April 17) following their Easter break.

Trainee teachers Brian Simpson and Andrew Nicholl hold the class every Tuesday in New Mossley Presbyterian Church between 3pm and 5pm.

Both are studying for their professional qualification in post primary education at Stranmillis College.

Brian is studying to be a maths and science teacher and Andrew is studying to be a technology and design teacher.

Their club caters for secondary school aged children and offers support and guidance in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

“The homework club is a great place; nothing like school,” said Brian.

“It has a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. There is tea, coffee, soft drinks and something to eat for the students and they can go and sit with one of the tutors or their friends and get help with their homework.

“You do not need to have homework and can get help with applying for jobs, writing CVs or anything you would like a helping hand or second opinion with.

“There are a wide variety of students coming to the club, some just looking to better their grades.

“Others are looking help with reading difficulties and one-to-one sessions can be arranged if someone would like help in private.

“At the moment we average around 10 students but would love to see more come along,” he added.
