Information day on Goods Vehicle licence changes

The Department of the Environment (DOE) has announced significant changes to the requirement to have a Goods Vehicle Operator’s Licence.

The changes will become effective on July 1, 2012 and will require all those using vehicles with a gross plated weight over 3,500kg to carry goods in the course of a business or trade to have an operator’s licence.

Currently only operators using vehicles over 3,500kg to carry goods for hire or reward have to be licensed. The new legislation will bring all operators carrying their own goods into the licensing fold.

The DOE will be holding a number of Information Open Days to help inform the industry about the changes. Representatives from the DOE and other key agencies will be attending these to provide advice and guidance on how to comply with new legislation.

The Information Open Day in Newtownabbey will take place on Tuesday, March 27 from 12 noon to 8pm at Corr’s Corner Hotel, Ballyclare Road, Glengormley.
