GLENGORMLEY student Jade O’Neill is hoping to cut out a future for herself in the ultra-competitive fashion industry. And for the next few weeks she’s focusing her attention on a prize that could really kick-start her career - winning the Miss Northern Ireland crown.
The 20-year-old beauty from Glencroft, a second year Fashion Management degree student at Belfast Metropolitan College, won the Miss Maghera title earlier this month, securing her a coveted place in the final of the prestigious Miss NI contest on June 13.
Jade entered the local heat of the competition at Spice Restaurant near Antrim on April 17, but didn’t get through. However, the organisers of the event recognised her potential and encouraged her to try again.
“I went to another heat at the Coach in Banbridge and got through to the last six, but I didn’t win so I wasn’t going to bother entering again,” she explained. “But they asked me to try again and so I went to the heat at Walsh’s Hotel in Maghera and it was third time lucky.”
