THE new PTA at St Mary's on the Hill is aiming to build on the family atmosphere of the school.
That was the message from Co-Chair of the Association, Lisa McGuinness, following its first ever fundraiser.
Children, teachers and parents enjoyed a fun filled night at the school disco on Tuesday, December 14.
The PTA is raising cash for high-tech interactive whiteboards to be installed in every classroom.Lisa, who chairs the association with Louise McQuillan said the equipment was vital to the children's education.
"We set up the PTA around Halloween time, there hadn't been one for the past three years," she said. "Our focus is to support the school and raise money for equipment. We have a really great small school with an incredible family atmosphere and we want to build on that.
"There are 13 classes and seven of them have the whiteboards, so we are raising funds to get one in each of the other six. The teachers at the school do a fantastic job and to get the equipment in would be a great support for them.
"The whiteboards are totally interactive and help get the children used to using technology as well as making lessons more enjoyable for them.
"They cost between 1,500 and 3,000 and really help to prepare the kids for big school."
Lisa said the school disco was well supported by parents and businesses.
