'President's visit has damaged good relations'

IN response to the criticism of myself and the Democratic Unionist Party on the front page of last week's paper (29th April) I will respond firstly to Billy Webb whose comments are sadly predictable.

It seems that comments against any community are wrong unless of course it is against the majority Protestant community who it appears is supposed to stick its head in the sand, move on, and forget everything that has been said or done against it while other communities can complain constantly and have millions spent on enquiries to appease them.

In relation to the comments made by Mukesh Sharma, a "respected statesperson" like Mary McAleese should not make remarks that can create anger and mistrust. The legacy of this can last for a very, very long time.

Whether some people like it or not, the majority of people living in Newtownabbey are of the Unionist community and this visit, unapproved by Council, has damaged good relations and will make people wonder about the true agenda of the Good Relations Partnership.
