'Relief road will not ease town centre traffic congestion'
I AM writing regarding your recent article in the Newtownabbey Times dated August 27 entitled 2,000 New Homes for Ballyclare.
It is my opinion that the councillors have got it wrong regarding easing the traffic congestion. The severe congestion occurs in the morning and is moderate throughout the day. What is needed in the morning is simply good traffic management on the Main Street and specifically no parking on the Doagh Road in front of the NFU/Church of Ireland/Primary School at any time. Delivery lorries for shops should be encouraged to arrive very early in the morning or after rush periods.
The early morning congestion is caused primarily by the schools traffic, but the relief road will do little to change this. The light congestion throughout the day is caused by shop deliveries and particularly inconsiderate parking and large delivery lorries.
It is my opinion the relief road will destroy the town centre. Don't take my word for it, drive to Dublin on the old main road where you will see many ghost towns.
Regards,
Concerned Ballyclare Resident.
