What was council's reasoning behind pipe band contest venue change?

WITH regards to the recent pipe band contest that was held at The Threemilewater Playing Fields, I am puzzled as to why the council in their wisdom decided to move the venue from Ballyclare to Threemilewater Park?

This after all was the last day of the May Fair when I would have thought that local traders and the like would have only been too glad to see some visitors coming into the town to spend some of their hard earned cash.

Everyone would have had something to gain - Cullens for example with all the young people within the pipe bands visiting the amusements, likewise the stall holders and all the cafes and fast food outlets would have gained because all these people would have needed food. Threemilewater has no immediate amenities close by (within walking distance), ie shops, cafes, restaurants, so why choose it as a venue? Secondly, I would like to comment on the direction signs for the event, or the lack of them in this case.

I stand corrected, but I am sure there was only one sign at Sandyknowes roundabout, after that visitors had to guess their way to the venue?

Is the council responsible for these decisions? If so, do we think they were wise, and can we learn lessons for events like this in the future? Does the council not value the presence of the pipe band organisations within its borough?

Gareth Gibson, Ballyclare.
