Debut Dance Company picked up the Best Activity Provider in Greater Belfast award at the Families First Awards.

The dance company, based in Merville House, was presented with the accolade at the ceremony in the Crowne Plaza Belfast on Saturday, March 18.

The local group were competing against Jump Box NI and Sticky Fingers for the award. The company caters for both boys and girls. Currently, there are approximately 120 dancers enrolled at the dance company, with an age range of three to 24.

The company was founded over 25 years ago as the Valley Dance Company, but recently moved from the Valley Leisure Centre to Mervile House.

It operates five classes back-to-back on a Saturday morning, with new dancers always welcome. Classes at the cross-community dance group run throughout term time from September until June.

Congratulatory messages have been paid to the group on social media. Commenting on Facebook, one person said: “Congratulations! Awesome achievement.”

Debut Dance Company impressed the judges at this year’s awards and have been invited to perform at the opening ceremony at next year’s awards.
